Oropesa was a Christian town with many towers like Torre del Rey that were used to defend themselves from pirates and bereberiscos.
In the 19th and 20th centuries the locality began it´s development in 1900, with a population that didn´t even reach 1000. But it grew and in the 20th century it had close to 10,000 inhabitants.
